Wild Geese and Reeds. Two paintings, framed under glass, ink and light colors on paper. Each painting with inscription by the artist and signature: “Shoumin”. Three seals of the artist: “Shoumin”, “Yigong” (r), “Yigong” (i). Four collectors’ seals.
From an old Austrian private collection, collected in the 1970s
Bian Shoumin, style name Yigong, was from Shanyang (Huai’an) in Jiangsu province. He was a professional painter of flowers and birds and especially famous for his paintings of wild geese and reeds in ink-splash technique (pomo). These two paintings show nice, balanced compositions. The inscriptions also exhibit his typical writing style
